Roberto Salcedo: Work in the Colonial City is delicate
SANTO DOMINGO. The Mayor of the National District, Roberto Salcedo, said yesterday that the technicians that are carrying out the renewal project in the Colonial City "have to be very careful in the historic center, more than in any other place in the National District, therefore the projects are much slower and, as a result, in order for us to comply with these protocols we have to do it this way. With lots of patience."

In spite of the fact that the Mayor's office of the National District is not directly tied to the public works, he indicated that he is following everything that happens and making sure that they respect the rules, and that the processes that are carried out there are agreed-upon among the institutions.

He said that in the case of the construction projects, these always present inconveniences. "All the construction processes present trauma, but in the end we will have a historic center that is much more renovated, much more elegant and apt for the issue of competitiveness of the city," said the Mayor.

He indicated that "once all the construction is finished, then we will bring everything together concerning the organization of the historic center," he stated.

The neighbors residing in the Colonial City, as well as merchants have complained of the slowness of the work and the reoccurrence of work in areas that had already been worked on.

Among the complaints of the neighbors are the problems that have come about with drainage, while in the area of Santa Barbara they demand the repair of water leaks from previous work in this area.

The Diario Libre requested yesterday an answer from the Ministry of Tourism regarding the projects, but this was not forthcoming.
