Sambil announces opening on 30 October
SANTO DOMINGO. Just 200 days to go for the opening of the doors of the biggest shopping center in the Dominican Republic: Sambil. This is a well-known name for shopping, services and entertainment, according to the explanation from the president of the project, Alfredo Cohen Kohn, during a visit to the director of the Diario Libre, Adriano Miguel Tejada.

The mall, which will open its doors on Tuesday, 30 October of this year, will create 4,000 direct jobs and 6,000 indirect jobs.

The project director said that the concept of the Sambil plazas is to reach all kinds of public, and they are at a strategic location with is the "crossroads of the Metro" which will attract a lot of customers.

Located at the intersection of John F. Kennedy and Maximo Gomez, the commercial plaza will house 350 shops distributed on four commercial levels; three floors of parking with a capacity for 2.400 vehicles, a theater with 1,200 seats, 14 movie theaters, 18 fast food vendors, 7 restaurants, a marine arcade and a museum of the sea.

Sambil Santo Domingo promotes commerce, recreation, and tourism in the area, offering all the services with extended hours within an atmosphere that is comfortable and safe, with an architectural design that is in the vanguard for this type of structure.

The commercial center is being built by the property development company Constructora Sambil, and is the first of a chain, with headquarters in Caracas, which opened in 1998, and inaugurating a plaza in Caracas, Valencia, Margarita, Maracaibo, San Cristobal, Barquisimeto and Punto Fijo-Paraguaná and now in Santo Domingo.

The plaza will be open 365 days a year, with hours from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 in the morning until 9:00 at night, and on Sundays and holidays from 12:00 noon until 8:00 at night.

The expansion

Alfredo Cohen Kohn said that the franchise comes to the Dominican Republic because they are expanding. In 2013 they will open in Panama and other countries in the region.

Sambil is a business group which belongs to a Venezuelan family, with a company founded by his grandfather, Salomon Cohen.

In Venezuela it is a very successful brand, with 7 Sambil, and 120,000 customers a day in the store in Caracas. In business, in general, they are doing well.

The name "Sambil" came into existance about 50 years ago in Venezuela according to Mr. Cohen.
