Seven violent deaths in Santiago in 72 hours
SANTIAGO. In the last 72 hours a total of 7 persons have died violently in Santiago, according to the reports offered by the Central Cibao Regional Command of the National Police.

Of the fatalities, a young man who was wounded by a gunshot resisting an assaults, is said to have died on Sunday morning in the José Maria Cabral y Baez Regional University Hospital because of a lack of a ventilator, according to a report from the Mao, Valverde branch of the Dominican Medical College.

This was the case of young Cristian José Almonte, 27, who was the son of Doctor José Almonte, a resident of Mao. The remaining victims were identified as José Nicolas Morel, Lauriel Raul Seratta, Alfonso Lopez Martinez, Dionys Reyes, Juan Antonio Cofresi Ventura and Juan Sosa.

According to police sources, they all died of gunshots, in the majority from assailants or unknown persons. The police authorities are investigating the case of the private watchmen Juan Sosa, in order to determine whether it was a suicide or a homicide, in an incident which occurred on the Bartolome Colón Avenue of Santiago.

The violent incidents of last weekend in the city of Santiago are in contrast with the statements by the Chief of the National Police, who said that the violent deaths or deaths resulting from crime, had fallen significantly in this city.
