Some 40% of high school students failed part of the National Tests
The percentage of those that passed is similar to 2011, which was 59.8%

SANTO DOMINGO. Some 40% of the students of the fourth year of high school failed one or several of the National Tests in the first try which was carried out between 26 and 29 June.
Of the 96,399 students that took the examinations, 58,141 managed to pass them all and were promoted. This number represents 60.21% according to the results from the Directorate for Evaluation of Educational Quality at the Ministry of Education.
Looking at the breakdown of the results of each of the examinations which the authorities have done, it can be seen that Mathematics was one of the subjects with the most fail grades, since of the 90,210 that took the test, only 66,273 passed, some 73.47%.
Regarding the results in the other tests, Spanish Language saw 89,528 students taking the test and 79,764 passed, an 89% pass rate. In Social Sciences, 88,265 took the exam and 78,282 passed, for a pass rate of 88.69%. In Natural Sciences, there were 89,463 students taking the test and 72,118 were able to pass, for a rate of 87.38%.
In order to receive an overall pass rating the students have to pass all four tests and in this first round of testing only 60.21% did that.
Passing these tests allows the students to go forward towards a college or university degree.
