Taxes on vehicles will produce RD$3.2 billion

SD. The General Directorate for Internal Taxes (DGII) is expecting to collect RD$3.2 billion with the tax on the renovation of the sticker which is called the "marbete" and allows a vehicle to use the roads. The tax was increased in the fiscal reform which was approved in November of last year.

The information was revealed by Guarocuya Felix, the DGII director, who explained that the annual tax for vehicular circulation will be 1% of the value of the vehicle, which represents an approximate increase with respect to last year of RD$1.8 billion.

According to the official, the taxes are always uncomfortable, and this tax established in the last fiscal reform was a necessity in order to correct some macro-economic distortions and to maintain the stability which the country enjoys today.

For Felix, there is a lot of confusion regarding the application of the tax, indicating that not everyone is going to pay the one percent for the right to circulate on the roads, but rather it depends on the year of the vehicle.

"Those that will pay the most will be the most costly vehicles, in the vehicles of the middle class there will be less of an impact than the more costly vehicles, which is to say that those are going to have a more balanced tax," he added.

The renewal of the "marbete" is scheduled to begin in the month of August.

The DGII director was interviewed after meeting with the Hacienda Commission of the Senate where they are studying the legislative proposal that revokes the yearly tax on the net productive financial assets.
