Texas crude closes at US$79.21 a barrel

NEW YORK. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was lower yesterday by 0.68% and closed at US$79.21 a barrel, pressured by the strengthening of the dollar against other currencies and the renewed fears regarding the situation in Europe on a day in which Spain formally asked for help from the Eurogroup in order to heal its banks.
At the close of the first session of the New York Mercantile Exchange the futures contracts for WTI for August delivery, the ones closest to coming due, dropped 55¢ from Friday's price and made it three days in a row under US$80.
WTI showed this decline in price during a day in which the dollar was stronger.
