The Conep insists on approval of DGA law

They say with the new law transparency in the use of Customs' funds will be guaranteed

SANTO DOMINGO. The National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep) reiterated their call for the quick approval of the legislative proposal of the Customs Law which is now in the National Congress.

In this sense, the entity proposed that the Chamber of Deputies should go forward in the study and approval of the legislative proposal approved previously by the Senate of the Republic. In the judgment of the Conep, this law constitutes a fundamental piece for the institutionalization and modernization of the Directorate General of Customs.

In a press communiqué, the entity reiterated the need for establishing a legislation which guarantees the transparency in the handling of the funds of the entity and the due process in the actions of the Directorate General of Customs "in accord with the principles already established in the Constitution and by diverse decisions of the Constitutional Tribunal and in the Superior Administrative Tribunal."

In a like manner, the Conep made it clear that after the contradictions with the Director General of Customs, Fernando Fernandez, they have not had any official contact with the official, but they are open to high-end and profound technical dialogues with respect to the content of the legislative proposal of the Customs Law.

The Conep is the principle business organization and the Dominican Republic. As an umbrella entity it incorporates the principal business organizations of the different sectors and the companies with the greatest incidence in the national economy, explains the press release.

They stressed that their main purpose is to lead the strengthening of the free enterprise system, actively participating as an agent of change and transformation, in the consolidation of democracy and its institutions.
