The Dominican market is saturated by electronic lotteries
SANTO DOMINGO. With the arrival today of the "Gordo Iberoamericano" a war between the lottery companies begins. These companies besides gathering in money, sell dreams of becoming "millionaires" to the players who each day acquire one of their products in search of a stroke of luck.

The promise of the new lottery is that a minimum prize of RD$250 million will be handed out each week, through betting RD$100 in a five number play selected from 54 numbers. The selection can be done manually or at random by the machines available at all of the Dream Casinos, Dream Sports, and Dream Loto establishments in the country.

The drawings will be held in Spain, although the first one is going to be held in the Dominican Republic this Sunday, 24 February in a live and direct transmission over a network of radio and television stations at 7:30 at night.

The new lottery proposal immediately alerted its rivals from the Dominican Electronic International Lottery (Leidsa), who reactivated their publicity campaigns and increased the initial amount of their Lotomas prize from RD$25 to RD$50 million, making it more attractive. Their products are El Loto, Quiniela and Pale, Loto Pool, Pega3 Mas, Kino Mas, Loto Mas and Super Kino TV.

Leidsa has operated in the country since 1997 and according to its webpage some 142 persons have won the lotto, giving honor to their slogan of being a "factory of millionaires."

Besides Leidsa, the Gordo Iberoamericano will enter into competition with Loteka and Loto Real, who also offer diverse products in different drawing each day.

In the case of Loteka, they offer such products as Mega5, Mega4 Extra, 3x3, Megachances, Mega decenas and 2x2.

In the meantime, the Loto Real offers: Loto Real, Super Loto Real, Quiniela Real, Palé Real, Tripleta Millonario Real, Quinielita Real and Pega4 Real.

The State Lottery

The National Lottery is the public institution authorized to regulate, monitor and supervise the implementation, operation and administration of the establishments authorized to carry out operations of sales for these games. The state agency offers products such as quinielas and lottery tickets for daily drawings which are held at 1:45 in the afternoon and another at 8:45 p.m.

However, it is up to the Directorate of Casinos and Games of Chance, a part of the Ministry of Hacienda, to receive, evaluate and submit for approval the issuance and renovation of licenses to operate casinos, raffles, bingo games, charity raffles, one-armed bandits and any other game of chance.
