Trujillo grandson removed from Lower House hearings
SANTO DOMINGO. Ramfis Dominguez Trujillo, a grandson of the dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina, was invited to leave the public hearings that are being held by the Commission on Culture of the Chamber of Deputies where the project to create a history museum based on the Trujillo Era is being discussed.

Dominguez Trujillo was identified by Rafael Martinez Espaillat (El Chino) who ,as soon as he recognized his presence, informed the commission. At once the president of the commission, Deputy Manuel Jimenez invited the gentleman to withdraw from the room for reasons of security.

"In a certain way, his presence is provocative, and it is a presence that generates real passion from people that still live with the pain and the smell of blood. However, he will be cited next week in order to be heard, but without his participation becoming any sort of provocation", Jimenez explained.

Dominguez Trujillo, who is said to be one of the sponsors of the initiative, was registered on the list of those that took part in yesterday's hearing. As he left, he referred to the fact that he wants to participate in the debates, because they have given his family the opportunity to express themselves regarding the tyranny.

In the meantime, the PRD deputy Leivin Guerrero said that he would not withdraw the legislative proposal because it is a democratic right. He placed his parliamentary immunity at the disposition of his colleagues so that they can investigate any ties or patronage between himself and the Trujillo grandson.

In the public hearings, the project continues to be rejected. The Federation of Patriotic Anti-Trujillo Foundations said that it was an absurdity to pretend to perpetuate "the lights and shadows" of the tyranny by creating a museum.

Porfirio Rodriguez, the president of the Foundation of the Heroes of Constanza, Maimon and Estero Hondo, says he feels it is a lack of respect and a provocation that Deputy Guerrero presents the proposal, "since the Trujillo Era was the most embarrassing and horrible ever experienced by Dominicans".
