HIGÜEY. Individuals with the look of assassins killed two persons, including the mayor of a rural community in the province of La Altagracia, and they wounded a third person, when they left the courthouse after testifying before the Collegiate Tribunal of Higuey in the case of a murder involving drug trafficking.

The deceased are Juan Emilio, 53, the mayor of Batey Maragua and Julito Telemaco Yan, 26. Both were killed as they left the courtroom where the case of the murder of Jofren Castillo Rosario, 27, was being heard. The case is related to a stash of drugs.

The authorities, headed by the District Attorney Lucas Perez, were on the scene of the Palace of Justice on Jose Audilio Santana Street in the Cambelen sector, at once. They were joined by the commander of the Homicide and Investigation Department, the coroner Feliz Tejeda and Police Colonel Carlos Cueva.

Emilio received five gunshots in different parts of his body, while Telemaco was hit six times. Both bodies were taken to the morgue of the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Hospital. Telemaco was free on bail and charged with the murder of Castillo Rosario.
