Uneasiness regarding report on Figueroa Agosto
The meeting is set for 10:00 am
SANTO DOMINGO. Police authorities and the District Attorney will face a major challenge today with the presentation of the report on the assassination of the former colonel Jose Amado Gonzalez Gonzalez, since the people expect that the report will uncover the accomplices and ‘fronts' of the fugitive drug trafficker Jose. D. Figueroa Agosto, said to have been tied into the high spheres of power.

The much awaited investigation will be released during a press conference with the directors of the local media, to whom the Attorney General Radhames Jimenez, the chief of the National Police, Rafael Guillermo Guzman Fermin and the commander of the National Department for Drug Control (DNCD), Rolando Rosado Mateo will provide details of the case and present a series of videos on the case. The press conference is called for at 10:00 a.m. in the Melia Hotel.

New elements will be revealed regarding Sammy Dauhajre Dauhajre, p[ointed out by the District Attorney's office as the "right-hand man" of Figueroa Agosto, and against whom the department will request coercive measures shortly.

Meanwhile, the expectations are concentrated on whether or not new names will be revealed regarding money laundering of funds from drug trafficking or if things are leveling off.

Regarding the murder of the colonel, which occurred last 24 December, the authorities have in their possession a vehicle that the killers tried to burn up. The license plate used at that time, number OE 00234, was assigned to the former army major Antonio Saviñon Ayubar, who says that the plate was stolen from a vehicle of the former Army chief of staff Tommy Fernandez Alarcon, to who the Armed Forces originally assigned the tag.

Economic power

The authorities are looking for millions in assets that belong to the fugitive Jose David Figueroa Agosto and held by "front men" or under one of the several aliases used by the fugitive.

Likewise, the assets seized until now are worth an estimated US 100 million, while the persons supposedly related with the major case file are said to be nearly twenty.

Among these assets are luxurious penthouses, houses with the opulence characteristic of the drug lords, bank accounts, farms, lots, luxurious vehicles such as Ferrari, Jaguar, Lamborgini as well as late model SUVs.

Until now, the authorities have discovered that Figueroa Agosto had at least 20 luxurious residences and villas, and around 30 expensive vehicles.

Those implicated in the case are Mary Pelaez, Eddy Brito, former husband of the fugitive Sobeida Feliz Morel, the wife of Figueroa Agosto, Leavy Yadira Nin Batista (a.k.a. Fior jansen Rodriguez and also called Astrid Patricia).

Likewise, Jose Fernandez Ibarra, who was said to be the owner of the SUV used by Figueroa Agosto to flee on 3 September is part of the case.

Also implicated is Ricardo Ivanovich Smester, from whom a Ferrari said to belong to the Puerto Rican sentenced to serve 209 years, was seized.

He authorities are going after at least five other "straw" men who have possession of million dollar assets belonging to the power drug lord. They will also look at alleged lovers of the criminal who also have expensive assets.

Even though it was confirmed "one hundred percent" that Figueroa Agosto was the person who called the radio program "El gobierno de la mañana", the authorities cannot say whether the call came from inside or outside the country.

Regarding Smester, the District Attorney established a tie with Figueroa Agosto, as they seized an illegal firearm, several vehicles, cell phones and documents.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General recovered an SUV, belonging to Pelaez, from the possession of the legal counsel of the Office of Asset Laundering, Sonya Uribe, who was fired from her post.

The Police reported that a person is being investigated with relation to the sale of a Ferrari automobile to Ricardo Ivanovich Smester, who last Friday night was sent to the jail in Najayo for three months of preventive custody to await money laundering charges.

For his part, on Saturday, Judge Jose Alejandro Vargas of the Office of Service for Permanent Attention, ordered three months detention as a coercive measure against Jose Fernandez Ibarra who is accused of money laundering.
