US bank seizes four aircraft from Caribair
SANTO DOMINGO.- Las Americas International Airport. A United States banking institution seized four aircraft from Caribair for a debt of a million and a half dollars.

According to information obtained, Caribair, an air service company, failed to fulfill a contract with the Plus International Bank of Florida, and this caused the international company to sue the Dominican company and obtain a judgment that allows it to seize the four best planes belonging to Caribair.

Plus International Bank, a commercial entity incorporated under the laws of the state of Florida, was awarded the Caribair airplanes to satisfy their claim of payment for the sum of US$1,650,712.92.

The United States banking institution empowered the law services of Russin, Vecchi & Heredia Bonetti, with offices located in Santo Domingo, which handled the case until they received a verdict favorable to the US bank. Lawyers Maria Esther Fernandez A. de Pou, Sostenes Rodriguez Segura, Yipsy Roa Diaz and Francisco Manzano worked the case for the US banking firm.

The aircraft that were seized have the following identification: Registration Number HI 569 CT, a Piper model PA-31-310, Series 31-700; Registration Number HI 830 CT, a British Aerospace Jetstream 3101, Series 780; Registration Number HI 848, a SAAB Model SF 340A, Series 340A-128 and Registration Number HI 866, Model SF 340A, Series 340A-138, all in perfect condition.

The planes were found in the company's hangar, located in the Joaquin Balaguer International Airport in El Higuamo, with the exception of Registration Number HI 830 CT, which is at the Punta Cana International Airport, but which is incapable of flying because of the lack of both engines.

According to the information provided, these four planes brings the number of airplanes seized from Rafael Rosado, the owner and manager of the Caribair airline business, to six. The company offers local flights and regular flights to Haiti.

The law firm granted powers for the seizures to pilot and aviation businessman Amin Canaan, who, together with a bailiff and a notary public, appeared at the hangar in El Higuamo where the four planes were kept, and took possession.

The seizure took place in the presence of Rafael Rosado, the owner of Caribair, as well as employees and military personnel that worked at the Joaquin Balaguer Airport, who looked were surprised and asked what was going on.

Diario Libre tried to obtain the opinion of Rafael Rosado, the owner of the four aircraft that were seized, but in his office they only said that for the moment he was out of his private office.
