Agosto's wife goes before the Judge of Instruction today

She will appear in a preliminary hearing at the Second Court of Instruction

SANTO DOMINGO. The inmate Leavy Nin Batista, the wife of the Puerto Rican drug capo Jose David Figueroa Agosto, is supposed to appear today before the judge of the Second Court of Instruction, Claribel Nivar Arias, for a preliminary hearing on the charges of money laundering, criminal association, falsifying a public document and the use of false documents which were filed by the District Attorney of the National District.

The presentation of the defendant in a hearing has generated great expectation regarding what she, just like what Sobeida Felix Morel did last week, might open up and confirm the accusations against the eight defendants that said that they belonged to the network of money laundering that worked for drug trafficker, Jose Figueroa Agosto, currently in jail in Puerto Rico.

People have even gone so far as to speculate that the District Attorney might ask for an abbreviated trial against the defendant, as the result of an agreement that might have been reached with her, that same as with Felix Morel, and which consisted of a reduced sentence in exchange for information.

Nin Batista, in jail at the prison at Najayo after negotiating her surrender with the authorities and her return to the country from Spain where she remained as a fugitive for more than a year, has been interrogated on several occasions by the District Attorney of the National District, Alejandro Moscoso Segrra. The last time was lat Thursday, when she remained in the office of the D.A. for more than an hour.

The accused could give her statement also as a witness in the case against the other accused in the alleged money laundering ring.
