For 5 days the plaza will have 12 giant pools for the public
SD. The Santo Domingo "Malecon"-the famous Seaside Avenue-between Jose Maria Heredia Street and Maximo Gomez, will be turned into a gigantic solarium. For the last five days of Easter Week, the Guibia Beach Plaza with sand, palm trees, 12 gigantic pools, chaise lounges, basketball and volleyball courts will be open for the enjoyment of the public in a safe and permanently monitored environment with AMET, National Police, Tourism Police and Municipal Police on duty all the time.
The announcement was made yesterday by the Mayor, Roberto Salcedo, who said that in the entire area the Catholic churches and other denominations could carry out liturgical and religious activities with their faithful during the days of Easter Week.
There will be sports competitions of school volleyball, chess, dominoes, and other disciplines going on together with the religious activities. There will be areas for the practice of extreme sports, skating, bicycling, and other recreational activities.
From 6 in the morning of Holy Wednesday until Easter Sunday, the traffic will be closed along the George Washington Avenue between Jose Maria Heredia and Maximo Gomez. During Easter Week there is very little traffic, and this fact was taken into consideration.
The vehicles that want to go from West to East along George Washington Avenue will turn North on Maximo Gomez and then East on Independencia and on Jose Maria Heredia they can go South to the Malecon once again.
