Debt with generators is around US$707 million
As of 20 July, the payment due is 85% of the total debt. On this date in 2013, the arrears was 70%
SD. The Dominican Association of Electricity Industries (ADIE) estimates that as of 20 July, the debt of the government with the private electricity generation companies is at US$707.7 million, of which the amount of US$601.4 million is past due.
The largest debts are with EGE Haina, for the amount of US$270.9 million (all of it past due) and with AES Dominicana, for a total of US$ 209.9 million (of which US$ 141.7 is past due).
During this week in July 2013, the debt in arrears represented 70% of the total debt, while for the month of July 2014, this amount increased to85%.
In its Report on the Situation of the Electric System, covering the first half of 2014, ADIE reports that during the first half of the year, nearly 60% of the electricity was produced from low cost sources, such as natural gas, water and coal. They add that the generators that operate with more expensive fuels contributed 36% of the electricity.
The report estimates that the average purchase price by the EDES was US$0.1663 per Kw/h.
