Francisco Garcia, a veteran journalist passes away
President Danilo Medina sent a message of condolence to the family
SANTO DOMINGO. Yesterday the veteran journalist Francisco Garcia passed away at the age of 46. He was a respected member of the staff of the digital edition of the Diario Libre.
His remains are at the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Lincoln Avenue and he will be buried today at 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon at the Cristo Salvador Cemetery in San Isidro.
Garcia, who had been diagnosed over 12 years ago with polycystic kidney issues fought up to the end against his illness. He was married to Raquel Lugo, who is also a journalist, and they have one daughter.
A graduate of the Journalism School at the Organization and Method University (O&M), he was a professor on the Communications faculties of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra, and the O&M. In addition he was the news editor for the Diario Libre and he worked in the news department of Mundo Vision, Channel 9; the Cadena de Noticias and Telemicro.
Presidential condolences
President Danilo Medina expressed his personal condolences as well as in the name of his administration to the widow Raquel Lugo over the death of her husband. "The death of a loved one always causes us great pain, but in the case of your husband we are left with his contribution of years of dedicated work as a responsible journalist, as well as his genteel treatment of others," said Medina in a note given to Garcia's widow.
