IDAC says local airspace is safe

Aerodom says they have improved and modernized civil aviation

SANTO DOMINGO. The director of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), Jose Tomas Perez, said in a press release the "the security of Dominican airspace is totally guaranteed".

The IDAC said that the accusations of insecurity surrounding Dominican aeronautics were "unfounded". These accusation were made by the president of the Dominican Pilots Association, after revealing that there were 307 ‘incidents' is the local skies.

According to Perez, the civil aviation system of the country has passed "the most stringent international scrutiny". Among these inspections he indicated the one by the International Civil Aviation Organization (OACI), who carried out an audit of the surveillance and security systems. The local systems are classified as one of the best in the entire region. Perez indicated that the FAA (the Federal Aviation Authority) of the United States "has recognized the IDAC on several occasions for its good performance". Nonetheless, a Report of the Incident Prevention Unit of the IDAC itself cites events such as the dangerous loss of separation and lack of coordination between airplanes in the El Higuero Airport.


Aerodom supports the administration


On the other hand, the business consortium Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo 21 (Aerodom), said yesterday that the IDAC and its director have done a magnificent job to elevate and reach the standards currently held by the country in aeronautical terms.

Andrew O'Brian, the general manager of Aerodom, explained that the country has achieved a preferential place with regards to civil aviation, underlining the fact that this has been thank to the work done by Jose Tomas Perez at the head of this state agency.

"We are witness to the efforts carried out by the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) to regulate and modernize the national aeronautical system and of the favorable results that they have achieved for agencies such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (OACI)", O'Brian said.

The Director of Aerodom praised, moreover, the creation of the Air Navigation and Flight Control Center, as well as the recently inaugurated Superior Academy of Aeronautical Science (ASCA). He said that he considered these two events to be a demonstration of the interest by IDAC to guarantee greater security and efficiency in the country's civil aviation system.
