Extradited in 2010
Reports in the press indicate that Mendez Mendez was arrested on 19 December 2010 and extradited 12 days later at the request of the United States authorities, who indicted him on charges of possession and conspiracy to distribute 60 kg or more of cocaine.
At the time of his arrest he was said to be a part of the drug trafficking network of Puerto Rican José David Figueroa Agosto, a relationship that Mendez denied when he accepted voluntary extradition to the United States.
According to newspaper reports, Mendez was being sought in the Dominican Republic in order to stand trial in the District Court of the United States, in New York on conspiracy charges. On 15 June 2006 he was indicted by a Federal grand jury in the Southern District of New York.
