SANTO DOMINGO. The minister of Public Health and the president of the Dominican Medical College decided to meet today in Mao, Valverde, in order to discuss possible solutions to the demands for improvements in the hospitals on the North West Line which led the Medical College to hold a two-day work stoppage last week.

The announcement was made yesterday by the president of the CMD, Pedro Sing, who said that he agreed with Minister Altagracia Guzman Marcellino to move the meeting which was going to be held yesterday, for today at 11:00 in the morning, in order to go to the area of the incidents, where there is a greater demand and worry regarding the condition of the hospitals that exist and which has motivated the health personnel of the area to maintain protests for over three months.

Taking part in the meeting will be both national as well as provincial directors of the Medical College in the area and among the issues to be dealt with are human resources, the need to appoint more specialists and substitute others, who for reasons of age are exempted from offering services, security and equipment for the hospitals of the area and the standstill of the remodeling work.

Although the issue of the public network corresponds to the National Directorate of Health, which is directed by Ramon Alvarado, Guzman Marcellino decided to step up as the person in charge of the system, responsible for the quality of the attentions to the patient and of the epidemiological part.
