OPRET opens transfer stations to riders
SD. The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (OPRET) opened yesterday the transfer stations between lines 1 and 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro to the public. These stations are located on the John F. Kennedy and Maximo Gomez Avenues.
The information was offered by the director of the Opret, Diandino Peña, during a meeting with the press and the Opret employees and special invitees, which commemorated the first three years of commercial operation of the first Metro line.
The official said that the current and future riders of both lines will be able to know how to transfer by visiting the installation beginning on Friday, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., every day until 18 February.
Peña said that the modern installations of the Second Metro line, over which President Leonel Fernandez will take a trial run on 27 February, will permit the riders to move East to West and North to South at a cost of just one ride.
It carried 68,000,000 riders
The Opret director, Diandino Peña reported that in its three years of operation the fleet of trains has carried 68 million passengers which generated a savings of time for these passengers valued at some RD$4.5 billion based on an average salary of RD$80 an hour and a reduction of their commute by 40 minutes on average.
