Participation of police in crimes alarms District Attorney Yeni Berenice Reynoso
SANTO DOMINGO. The District Attorney of the National District, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, expressed her concerns for thinking that approximately 90% of the cases of organized crime have police and military members involved.
"In the majority of the cases of large-scale drug trafficking, killings for hire, organized crime, there are police and military."
She said that for over a year she has been watching this situation with some preoccupation. The official suggested that it is a situation which requires an intervention at another level, and it is necessary that it be done from other strata of the State that are not the Justice Department.
"If, from the Justice Department we have said that it is very alarming, very worrisome that persons with whom one is investigating every day are the same ones involved in the crime was that they are called to investigate."
She said that criminality requires re-making of the strategic planning in order to fight it, not just reacting after the incidents happen.
She said that to attribute criminality to a single factor is a mistake, because diverse causes have come together.
