Police won't discuss Jordi case; AMET lieutenant interrogated

Franklyn Almeyda Rancier
SD. The Superior Police Council which met yesterday left the case of the lawyer and journalist Jordi Veras on the table. A group of hired killers tried to assassinate Veras. In the meantime, the District Attorney for the National District, Alejandro Moscoso Segarra, said that the police authorities have to punish drastically their agents involved in the attempted murder of the son of Negro Veras.

The highest police body has planned to hear the punishments of 15 agents, eight of which are officers, but this did not happen because the investigations of the Justice Department have not ended, according to the explanation given by Franklin Almeyda.

On the other hand, Almeyda said that during the meeting which lasted for more than four hours they discussed "first, the package of financing for the Police and within this, we looked at how to agree on knowing the type of equipment that is needed".

He said that the second issue that was dealt with concerned the need to create a chain of command and supervision for the police that are assigned to dignitaries and individuals. At the same time, Moscoso Segarra said that if the police authorities have identified individuals involved in criminal acts, they should be investigated no matter their rank or institution.

"It is inconceivable that an individual be called in for an investigation and refuses to come in", he warned.
