President Medina, officials and entities congratulate DL on 14th anniversary

They stress the objectivity, diverse city, quality and veracity with which the morning paper has offered its information free of charge to the Dominican population for all these years

SANTO DOMINGO. On Sunday, 10 May, the Diario Libre newspaper celebrated the 14th anniversary of its founding, in the midst of congratulatory letters headed by that of the President of the Republic, Danilo Medina, as well as officials from different ministries, banks and private institutions.

In a letter sent to the director of the newspaper, Adriana Miguel Tejada, the President stressed that the newspaper contributes in an effective manner to the right of the citizen to information and to the strengthening of the public liberties, whose preservation he says constitute a firm commitment for the administration.

"As the first newspaper of free distribution in the country, Diario Libre provides a viable service to the citizens, by then adding its very up-to-date digital version and the summarized printed version which are delivered to the riders of the Santo Domingo Metro," he adds.

The Chief of State also exhorted the newspaper to continue as it has until now, "making important contributions to democracy, information, and the orientation of the Dominican people."

In another congratulatory letter, the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ramon Peralta, greeted the delivery of the morning paper which reports the news impartially to the citizens.

"During this span you have been outstanding because of projecting a responsible journalism, based not only on communicating the daily national and international events, but also, in cultivating among the people knowledge through interesting articles among which those of culture, history and finance are outstanding," he noted.

The Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Maximo Muñoz Delgado, said that the promptness of its information, the quality and seriousness shown by the team of professionals which compose the staff of the Diario Libre may get a very viable part of the media.

Antonio Isa Conde, who is also a minister but of Energy and Mines, assured the newspaper that it expanded the readership of news, and in an unprecedented act, contributed to the formation of opinions in broad spheres untouched by the other traditional newspapers.

"The Diario Libre, is an important symbol of information which has been enriching the exercise of free speech and the spread of thought in the country," he noted.

For the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice and the chairman of the Council of the Judicial Power, Mariano German Mejia, the Diario Libre provides an impeccable service in the exercise of journalism.

"To you and your team, which for 14 years have provided us with true, objective and up to date information, and have contributed with the democratic and pluralistic exercise the praiseworthy job of informing the citizens, I send you my heartiest congratulations," he indicated.

Milton Ray Guevara, the presiding magistrate of the Constitutional Tribunal, underlined the fact that the Diario Libre keeps the national history alive on social, political and economic issues in favor of the development of the society.

"It (the Diario Libre) is a model of innovation in style and agility, as it presents the information both in print as well as online, in perfect harmony with the modern and globalized world," he indicated.

Mariano Rodriguez Rijo, the presiding magistrate of the Superior Electoral Tribunal, said that the newspaper is without a doubt one of the communication media with greatest penetration and social responsibilities in the country.

"You laid out a new path regarding information and journalistic investigation, not only because of your agility, professionalism and veracity with regard to the news, but also for your leading-edge technology, precision of information and the various styles of your product," he indicated.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Dominguez Brito, said that the time is right to appreciate the intense and fruitful work which the Diario Libre has carried out in order to establish the journalistic practice and established itself among the leaders of the national press media.

"The journalistic exercise always carried out with fairness and honor will be a great contribution to the maintenance and growth of democracy, the freedom of opinion and governability, and in this sense, we recognize how much the Diario Libre has been able to contribute," he said.

The President of the Senate of the Republic, Cristina Lizardo Mezquita, recognize that it is not an easy task to reached 14 years carrying out a dignified and responsible journalism, above all when facing the adversities of the new times.

"The Diario Libre has broken barriers and has managed to present to the nation and to our society principles and values which is the motive for sending you this effusive congratulations on this new anniversary," she expressed.

For his part, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Abel Martinez Duran, said that 10 May has become a memorable date in the history of print journalism in the Dominican Republic..

"History will register for all times this day in which the Diario Libre went out into the streets as the first free newspaper in the Dominican Republic," he said.

Also joining in the congratulations was the commanding general of the National Army, Major General José Matos de la Cruz, who said that the Diario Libre, remains at the top of readership preferences, with compact and precise information.

At the same time the commanding general of the Air Force, Pilot Major General Elvis Marcelino Feliz Perez, said that he hopes that the Diario Libre continues along the path of the defense of the Democratic freedoms and the inalienable rights of all Dominicans.

From other media

Two of the principal newspapers of the country, dedicated their Sunday editorials to stressing the work which over the 14 years since its founding, the Diario Libre has carried out.

These were the Listin Diario and El Nacional, who echoed the festivities.

In yesterday's edition of the Listin Diario the newspapers stressed that the Diario Libre was the pioneer of the free newspapers and that today it has been accredited as one of the media that is most read by Dominicans.

"The basis of its success is not only the novel model that it represents, but also in the excellent editorial team which works with a competitive spirit being careful of the quality of the information and its topical issues," they underlined.

They suggest that the Diario Libre is an excellent reference in the fight for the freedom of press in the country and one of the major cooperating partners of the Dominican Society of Newspapers, which has forged alliances with the other national newspapers.

On the other hand, the evening paper El Nacional, says that the newspaper arrived at its 14th birthday having become an influential social media which has consolidated a place in the public estimation.

"With a modern design, the dynamic newspaper offers its broad legion of readers a content of quality and variety, up-to-date information, in-depth reporting, guidance and brave and responsible editorials," they expressed.

The editorial emphasized that the Diario Libre has notably contributed with the expansion of public liberties and the consolidation of the rule of law, so that its birthday constitutes a reason for collective celebration.

More congratulations

The national director of the National Office of Statistics (ONE), Pablo Taktuk, referred to the fact that the Diario Libre had been an outstanding supporter of journalistic plurality, since its founding on 10 May 2001.

Stimulos Creatvos and its director general Irene Morillo, especially congratulated the graphic reporters and social commentators that form part of the newspaper.

Also Enver Lopez Milander, the media manager of Publimercados expressed his congratulations and predicted much success for the newspaper.
