They complain they are forced to pay for Tourism classes, and at the same time are evicted from stalls

SD. The Association of Street Vendors (Buhoneros) of the Colonial Zone (ABZCA) threatened yesterday to take to the streets, after reporting that from the Ministry of Tourism, the Ayuntamiento of the National District and the security agencies that are found in the Colonial City there as an alleged plan to "not recognize or respect the rights of the Street Vendors," which were established in 1992 and bring together some 214 sellers.

For this reason they threatened to visit the headquarters of the institutions that they feel are trying to threaten them.

They revealed that in the past, the Ministry of Tourism invited them to classes in order to participate in the Program to Promote the Colonial City, and that at the same time the city government was pursuing them. "They have charged us RD$106,000 pesos for coursework. On the one hand Tourism charges us for the classes, and on the other the ADN takes away our merchandise and mistreats us, and today they totally resist meeting with us and finding a solution, as we have always been willing to do."
