Subero does not share judge's criteria
SANTO DOMINGO. The president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Jorge Subero Isa, does not share the position of the judge of the Penal Chamber of the Court of Appeals for the National District. Her position calls for regulating the journalistic coverage in the judicial processes.
The magistrate said that the individuals who are not in agreement with the point of view that the press gives to a piece of information (regarding a case) are the ones to protest.
"Now, the judges should understand that they should have covering that only is conditioned by their decision with the application of the Law".
Subero Isa said that he is not bothered nor does he worry or allow himself to be moved by an opinion that some newspaper article might express.
"Let's be clear, I am not in agreement with limitations (of the press)", he maintained as he was interviewed at the end of a signing of an agreement of cooperation regarding the exchange of cartographical information with the mayor of the capital, Roberto Salcedo.
Subero Isa commented that the Dominican Judicial Power cannot be questions regarding whether or not it has restricted the freedom of the media at the source.
He said that he thought that the idea of the magistrate was not to deal with statement made in the heat of a press conference, but rather that since they were expressed in a book, it must be supposed that the reflections were duly thought about and considered.
Subero considered that the media have supported and have allowed the development of the judicial reform. The judge, Katia Miguelina Jimenez, sets forth in a brochure a series of ideas that nobody had previously attempted to deal with.
