Three polls give Danilo the advantage

Nobody has be identified as the person responsible for the polls

SD. Three different polls released over a 24 hour period give the candidate of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Danilo Medina, the victory, and according to the projections he would win in the first round.

According to the firms Asisa Research Group, Hamilton Campaigns, and Beneson Strategy Group, the government party's candidate has an advantage over his opposition from the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), Hipolito Mejia.

The first of the polls that favor Medina was released last Monday at 10:00 a.m., by the Benenson Strategy Group and it gives a 50% voter preference against 46% for Mejia. This survey was done between 29 January and 15 February and interviewed 915 persons of which 60% would be willing to support Medina against 52% that would do this for Hipolito.

Yesterday coincided with the release by Hamilton Campaigns and Asisa Research Group who both surprisingly presented their numbers at the same time and in the same hotel and both gave the advantage to the PLD candidate.

Hamilton gave 50% to the PLD's ticket of Medina-Margarita Cedeño, against 45% for the PRD ticket of Hipolito and Luis Abinader. This poll was done between the 11th and the 14th of this month and used a sample of 1200 persons all over the country, where it said that 54% of those interviewed believe that the alliance of the Social Christian Reformist Party with the PLD will help the triumph of Medina.

In the meantime Asisa Research Group reported a 52.1% in favor of the PLD candidate and 46.3% in favor of the PRD. The poll used information from 11,574 persons all over the country, between the 10th and the 14th of this month and according to the company executives the margin of error is 0.91%.

In what has been called the "war of polls," the different firms limit their comments to saying that the polls are done at the request of businessmen.

More polls

The Insight, S.A. firm, in their poll of last 14 February, also favored Medina with 48.2% and gave Mejia 41.0%.

On the other hand the poll by Bendixen and Amandi, done on 28 January and the first of February gave the advantage to Mejia with 50% against 39% for Medina.
