US$8.5 million invested in "Green Batteries"
The new factory by Meteoro Batteries starts up in January
SANTO DOMINGO. Meteoro Battery Company will begin operations in a new factory in Haina, under the concept of "the Green Battery", with an investment of US$8.5 million financed by the BDI, Lopez de Haro, Proamerica and Popular Dominicano banks.
The information was offered yesterday by the president of the company, Jose Antonio Rodriguez Jimenez who, together with Juan Arturo Biaggi and other executives of the project, offered details on the project.
The new factory of Green Battery (Bateria Verde) is already in operation, and it will be inaugurated in January and will create 300 new direct jobs.
Moreover, the new plant will supply recycled materials to the companies that manufacture galvanized articles and tools. These companies can acquire the materials continuously without having to import lead, saving hard currency and time with customs paperwork.
The green production is a business vision that respects the Basel Convention, among whose strategic aims is to achieve that products, merchandise and services that are offered on the world market are clean, which means being free of contaminating elements. Rodriguez explained that what they are trying to do is neutralize heavy metals that are tied to lead products.
He went on to explain that the new installations of Meteoro Batteries will use world renown advanced technology exclusively for the industry that recycles lead and polypropylene, but under the norms of the Basel Convention.
He described how the factory will have a rotating oven with computerized procedures capable of classifying secondary products and sub-products with the adequate composition in each step of the process and the watches that the waste is totally inert.
The president of ‘Baterias Meteoro' spoke during a meeting with directors and editors of the media during which he explained the advantages of the new technology for the environment and the citizens.
