Wake for Poppy Bermudez today in Polytechnic parish
SANTIAGO. The remains of businessman José Armando Bermudez (Poppy) who died this Wednesday in Santiago, will be on display this Thursday, four December, starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Sagrado Corazon de Jesus parrish at the Politecnico Femenino Our Lady of Mercy, located in the Jardines Metropolitanos, on Estrella Sadhala Avenue, some 500 meters from his home in the Cerros de Gurabo, where he died.
His death occurred a little after 1:00 p.m. yesterday. He would have been 86 next week on 11 December.
Poppy Bermudez was born in 1928 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was the son of Pastora Luisa Calderon, of Argentina and the Dominican Aquiles Bermudez Ramos.
Members of the Bermudez family reported that after a funeral mass they will proceed to the burial at the cemetery on 30 de Marzo, in Santiago, at 4:00 p.m.
The well-known rum industry businessman was, in addition, one of the pioneers of color television in the Dominican Republic since it was he who inaugurated in Santiago, Color Vision (channel 9), which later was moved from the Hotel Matum to Santo Domingo.
He was also the founder of several business and banking associations as well as savings and loan associations.
He was the advisor of many Dominican business leaders.
He is survived by his wife Elba Madera de Bermudez, his widow, his children, Elba Josefina Bermudez de Bobadilla, José Armando Bermudez Madera, Julia Aurora Bermudez de Reid, Ana Estela Bermudez de Lama and Domingo Octavio Bermudez Madera and 12 grandchildren.
For his valuable contributions to art, education, the church and projects of social welfare, don José Armando Bermudez received numerous awards and diplomas, and at one time was declared, A Distinguished Son of the city by the local Ayuntamiento.
