Chief of PN and 24 officers are today key witnesses at trial of killers

Polanco Gomez headed the investigations, before he became Chief of Police

SANTO DOMINGO.- Twenty five officers, among them the Chief of the National Police, Jose Armando Polanco Gomez, will appear today, at 9:00 a.m., as witnesses in the trial of the nine alleged killers at the service of the Puerto Rican capo Jose David Figueroa Agosto.

Polanco Gomez will be the chief witness in the process, since he was one of the investigators of the alleged network of hired killers that worked for the former fugitive.

The trial is taking place at the Fourth Collegiate Tribunal of the Penal Chamber of the Court of First Instance of the National District. The court is made up of judges Pilar Rufino, who presides, Daira Medina and Daniel Julio Nolasco.


Besides Polanco Gomez, the colonels Miguel Angel Sanchez Martinez, Jacinto Minaya, Maximo Baez Aybar, who is now the spokesman for the Police, Manuel Antonio Jimenez Felix, Guillermo Baez Ubiera, Felix Luciano Marquez, Hector Diaz, Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte and Licurgo Yunes Perez will be called to testify.


Also on the witness list are the Lieutenant Colonels Inocencio Trinidad Vilorio, Jose Rafael Mendez Taveras, Jose Poche Valdez and Washington Green Almonte.

Police majors Eulogio Payano Adames, Jose Maria Cornielle Canela, Joselito Alonso Alcantara, Rafael de los Santos Cespedes and Manuel Emilio Tapia Rosario will be called to the stand.

Finally, there are the captains: Zacarias Pascual Encarnacion, Cristian Gomez Perez, Jose Luis Garcia, Bartola de los Santos Calderon and the first lieutenants Jose Tamarez Santiago and Oscar Mesa.

The witnesses will testify regarding the activities of the alleged network and the way in which Figueroa Agosto gave execution orders to the alleged hitmen.

Those being processed for being paid assassins are Gian Enrique Rojas Matos, Jose Miguel Rodriguez Almonte Jose Anibal Hidalgo Garcia, Diomedes Moya Duran, Winston Antonio Rodriguez Tavarez, Ricardo Perez Mateo, Wilhem Ortiz de los Santos, Yoel Antonio Feliz Medina and Jose Alberto de la Cruz Paredes.

The group was sent to trial as the result of an accusation filed by the District Attorney on charges of murders and criminal association, for their involvement in the murders of Colonel Jose Amado gonzalez Gonzalez, Omar Lantigua Polanco, and Ruben Soto Hayet, among others.

Sent to trial


The Second Chamber of the Penal Section of the Appeals Court of the National District revoked an order of dismissal that favored the alleged killers Yoel Antonio Feliz Medinca and Jose Alberto de la Cruz Paredes, who at first had been excluded from the case. The defendants will now be processed, together with the other seven, for murder, criminal association and illegal possession of firearms. The court of the second degree admitted into evidence all of the items offered against the defendants by the Justice Department.
