PLD - PRD agreement implies two new senators from Santo Domingo
PRD will field candidates for the provinces "Peña Gomez" and "Juan Bosch"
SANTO DOMINGO. The agreement between the Dominican Liberation (PLD) and Dominican Revolutionary (PRD) parties would imply the creation of two new provinces as the result of the division of the province of Santo Domingo which is suggested in a legislative proposal.
The two new provinces would be those of North Santo Domingo, which would be the José Francisco Peña Gomez, and that of West Santo Domingo, which would be called Juan Bosch.
The two candidates for Senator from these provinces would be fielded by the PRD for the 2016 elections, since the PLD Senators are going to be re-postulated, as a result of the agreement between President Danilo Medina and the former President Leonel Fernandez.
The President of the Social Democrat institutional Bloc (BIS), José Francisco Peña Guaba, said that he has been the proponent and the contact between both parties for the "shared government of national unity" which will bring these and other political organizations together for the 2016 elections.
Peña Guaba said that he expected to have today the basic proposal of the electoral agreement between the PRD and the PLD, in his hands before the voting of the Review Assembly of the Constitution takes place tomorrow.
He noted that what has been suggested in the agreement is the re-nomination of the deputies, mayors and directors of municipal districts with which are currently controlled by the PRD.
The BIS president didn't pay much attention to the resignations which have occurred in the PRD and he assured reporters that many mayors and directors of municipal districts of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) will return to the PRD because they have a sure victory with the Progressive Bloc.
"The PRM and Luis Abinader had not made any proposal for an agreement with the PRD, the only proposal which they made was that they would sign a joint document of rejection of the constitutional reform," he underlined. Peña Guaba added that the "the PRD is not making an agreement with the PLD because it wants to, but rather because it doesn't have any other viable alternative then the proposal presented by President Danilo Medina."
