Police analyze videos on death of deputy minister

Castro Castillo gave guarantees that the crime will be solved shortly

SANTO DOMINGO. Investigators are analyzing several videos they called important and that could be vital to solving the assassination carried out last Friday against the deputy minister of Energy and Mines, Victoriano Santos Hilario.

The information was offered yesterday by the Chief of Police himself, Major General Manuel Castro Castillo, who once again reiterated that the crime has all the characteristics of a killing-for-hire.

Castro Castillo explained that they have found other important evidence that will help the investigators a lot to solve the crime and arrest those responsible.

In the meantime, yesterday, the chief of Police received a commission of deputies and took advantage of the meeting to say that the institution (the National Police) does not resist a Reformation, and that they are immersed in a process of changes and modernization.

He said that they are prioritizing the technification and modernization of the Police in preventive patrols and in the investigation processes. Likewise, he added that they are working on the training curriculum of the members of the force.

The commission that is studying the legislative proposal for the Reform of the Law of the Police visited yesterday Police Headquarters in order to take a tour through the different departments of the institution and learn about the concerns related to the issue. The tour ended with a visit to the General Hospital of the National Police. The chairman of this commission, Elpidio Baez, indicated that there are some critical aspects in which the police and the commission have not managed to come to an agreement.
