The CNSS authorizes Senasa to enroll elderly

SANTO DOMINGO. The National Social Security Council (CNSS) authorized the program for National Health Insurance (Senasa) to directly enroll as beneficiaries of the Family Health Insurance (SFS) of the Subsidized Regime, those elderly that live in non-profit nursing homes.

The general manager of the DNSS, Rafael Perez Modesto, said that the elderly will always receive benefits as long as they comply with the legal parameters established for the system and they have their "cédula" identification and voter registration card and are not affiliated to the system.

The measure is contained in the CNSS Resolution Number 01 from last 10 April, which establishes that in order to facilitate the identification of the nursing homes, the authorities from Senasa could carry out consultations with institutions, agencies and entities, either governmental or non-governmental, with responsibility or related to giving attention to the elderly.

"This measure taken by the Council will protect those elderly that are in a state of vulnerability and in the majority do not have adequate protection, on occasion abandoned by their families in these homes. This will have a positive impact on the quality of life of those that receive these benefits," he said.

The elderly make up the population which regularly require health services due to the chronic illnesses that they have.

According to Perez Modesto, the health coverage of this sector and other vulnerable sectors of the country have resources assigned in the National Budget.
