The Commission presents its report today on the proposal for a reform

The Attorney General says that he will speak at the proper time regarding the complaints

SANTO DOMINGO. Today the review and audit commission of the National Review Assembly will present its report regarding the legislative proposal for the modification of the Constitution, in its article 124, concerning presidential reelection.

Deputy Lupe Nuñez, who is chairman of said commission, indicated that the report is ready and that it will be delivered within the deadline established, which is within 48 hours before the next session is convened.

The president of the Assembly, Senator Cristina Lizardo, has convened the assembly to meet this Friday at 10:00 in the morning, in order to deal with the second reading of the modification that was approved, and which had the favorable votes of 183 of the 222 members of the assembly.

Regarding the complaints expressed regarding the process of the reform, related to the alleged purchase of votes in order to favor the presidential reelection, the Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Dominguez Brito, said that "at the right time" he would refer to the complaints of the alleged bribery made by legislators.

Yesterday several deputies came out against the statements by the presidential candidate of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Luis Abinader, in which he accused President Danilo Medina of converting the Congress into a pile of "dirt".

"To make a reference like that regarding a power of the State is to disqualify yourself," said the deputy of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) Carlos Gabriel Garcia, who said he expected that the election campaign would be carried out in a decent manner. Cristian Paredes, the deputy of MODA, called this statement an act of desperation by Abinader, who he called on to calm down and wait his opportunity to be president for the 2020 or 2028 term.

"I understand the levels of desperation in which he finds himself, but the Congress is not his target to attack, his target is Danilo Medina," he said.

Deputy Francisco Matos, of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) said he feels that Abinader should reconsider what he said, because his statements are not true.
