The government orders free rides on Metro 2

Without any of the big displays previously seen in opening of Metro I, the government will initiate service today at 9:00 a.m. on the Metro II line which covers 14 stations, but this first stage will go from Duarte Avenue and V Centenario all the way to Luperon Avenue and John F. Kennedy Avenue.
The good news is that as a Christmas and New Year's present the government has ordered that for these 9 days, from today until 1 January, the people can ride Line 2 for free.
According to their calculations, some 135,000 persons move each day along the Duarte Corridor and the expectations of the Opret, according to Carrasco, are that in this first phase some 80% of these people will use the Metro.
He made it clear that they have taken precautions to avoid accidents.
He reported that in the new transportation system, which is similar to Line 1, with 15 trains with 45 cars that will leave every 4 to 5 minutes.
More than 300 employees have been hired to work on the second Metro line, among which are: 30 conductors, 15 women and 15 men.
Line 2 of the Metro will be functioning between 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. on a regular schedule. However, on holidays such as the 25th and 31st of December, it will only work until 8:05 p.m. The riders can transfer from one line to another at the Juan Pablo Duarte Station which is located at the corner of Maximo Gomez and John F. Kennedy Avenue.
Several companies have installed their services in the stations of the new Metro II line. The other stations are located at the intersections of Nuñez de Caceres, Dr. Defillo, Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, and Lope de Vega. There are also stations at the corner of Ortega y Gasset, San Martin, Josefa Brea, Albert Thomas and Francisco del Rosario Sanchez.
