University Council approves audit of UASD by Chamber of Accounts

Classes are suspended for next Monday

SANTO DOMINGO. The University Council of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) approved in their session yesterday that the Chamber of Accounts should audit the university at the request of the rector Mateo Aquino Febrillet.

The resolution in question says that they are sending the official agency, for the audit, the financial balance sheets and the budgetary performance of the state university up to 31 December 2013.

In a press release they added, moreover, that this measure guarantees the transparency which during the three years of the Aquino Febrillet administration the finances have been handled. On 28 February, Aquino Febrillet will hand over the reins to the newly elected rector Ivan Grullon Fernandez.

Yesterday Grullon Fernandez announces that he would clean up the financial situation of the UASD due to the fact that over the last year the payroll had nearly doubled at the university.

Given this complaint, reporters wanted to know the reaction of Aquino Febrillet to the statement and he responded that he would deal with this after he hands over the administration.

Classes suspended next Monday

The principle agency for university administration also approved the suspension of classes for next Monday, 24 February, at the main campus as well as in the different regional campuses, so that the professors can take part in the elections to choose the candidates for the different posts in the UASD who are facing a second round of voting. they will also choose the directors of the different schools.

Last Saturday, in the university elections, only the rector and the vice-rectors for Academics and Administration were elected, but the posts of vice-rector for the extensions and for research and post graduates and other posts did not reach the required majority of votes.
